Día de Muertos Nichos are like shadow boxes, these usually come in all shapes and sizes, made of wood, metal, or anything else you can think of.
The only time I decorated some type of nicho was in an event using a ceramic template from Crafty Chica, it was fun and I still have it and use it in our altar every year. Since then I always loved looking at little nichos during Día de Muertos. I think of them as mini altars.
So that’s what I thought when I was designing these two Día de Muertos Nichos: a mini altar! I drew flowers, water, candle, day of the dead bread, music, sugar skulls, and any colorful inspiring Day of the Dead icon.
I made these for HP Print and Play, you can download for free, print, and make at home with cardstock.
I drew all the figures using Procreate on the iPad then I finalize them in Photoshop and Illustrator, SO MUCH FUN! I was sad to finish this project but happy and excited about how it turned out, I love it! I hope you enjoy and use these cute Nichos!
HOW TO MAKE YOUR DÍA DE MUERTOS NICHOS
SUPPLIES:
- Printable nichos
- White cardstock
- Scissors or craft knife
- Glue or tape
- A photo of a loved one that passed away (4” x 3” approximately)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Print all pages on cardstock. Cut along the lines and fold along the dashed lines.
- Use glue or tape on the front tab and curve the front of the NICHO to stick it to the inside of the back.
- Glue your photo to the inside of the NICHO keeping in mind what will end up showing through the window. (We honored my abuelita Lucila and our kitty Cooper)
*For the NICHO that has windows: It will be easier to cut the opening with a craft knife. Cut the window designs separately and glue them to the inside of the opened NICHO’S windows.

HAZ TUS NICHOS PARA EL DÍA DE MUERTOS
Los Nichos de Día del día de Muertos son bastante comunes, generalmente vienen en todas las formas, tamaños y colores, hechos de madera, metal o cualquier otra cosa que se te ocurra.
La única vez que decoré algún tipo de nicho fue en un evento usando un molde de cerámica de Crafty Chica, fue muy chévere y todavía lo tengo y lo uso en nuestro altar todos los años. Desde entonces siempre me ha gustado estar pendiente y admirar los nichos durante el Día de Muertos. Siento que son como mini altares.
Así que en eso pensé cuando estaba diseñando estos dos Nichos para el Día de Muertos: ¡un mini altar! Dibujé flores, agua, velas, pan del día de los muertos, música, calaveras de azúcar y cualquier otro ícono colorido e inspirador del Día de los Muertos.
Los hice para HP Print and Play, pueden descargarlos gratis, imprimirlos y hacerlos en casa con cartulina.
Hice todos los dibujitos usando Procreate en el iPad y luego las finalicé en Photoshop e Illustrator, ¡ME FASCINÓ Y ME DISFRUTÉ MUCHÍSIMO ESTE PROYECTO ! Me puse triste cuando lo terminé, pero feliz y emocionada de los resultados ¡me encanta! ¡Espero que ustedes disfruten y usen estos Nichos del Día de Muertos tan cute!
NICHOS PARA EL DÍA DE MUERTOS
SUPPLIES:
- Los nichos impresos
- Cartulina blanca
- Tijeras y cuchilla de manualidades
- Pega o teipe
- Una foto de un ser querido que haya fallecido (4” x 3” aprox)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Imprime todas las páginas en cartulina. Corta a lo largo de las líneas y dobla a lo largo de las líneas punteadas.
- Usa pega o teipe por encima de la pestaña y dobla la parte de en frente del NICHO para pegarla en el interior de la parte de atrás.
- Pega tu foto adentro del NICHO teniendo en cuenta lo que terminará mostrándose a través de la ventana. (Nosotros le hicimos homenaje a mi abuelita Lucila y a nuestro querido Cooper)
* Para el NICHO que tiene ventanitas: será más fácil cortar la abertura con una cuchilla. Corta los diseños de las ventanas por separado y pégalos en el interior de las ventanitas abiertas de los nichos.
