One of the monthly adventures we gave the kids this past Christmas was a San Diego ice cream crawl which was very much anticipated and I think it lived up to the anticipation!
Here is how I planned the San Diego ice cream crawl:
- I googled ice cream shops in San Diego and took a look at unique shops that we haven’t been to before, that was my criteria for choosing.
- I chose 5 shops in total, even though I had a list of 6 but 5 is really enough!
- At each ice cream place, we just got one ice cream and shared it. It was a little hard to decide on the flavor since we all wanted different ones but we had to commit.
- We used this fun sheet from Oh Happy Day! to rate each ice cream shop, I think it added something extra to the experience!
- Here are the places we went on our San Diego ice cream crawl: Somi Somi, Bing Haus, An’s Dry Cleaning, Stella Jeans, Mutual Friend. Below I show you one by one and what we thought of them:
Somi Somi
This place is so fun and different! We loved it! They have soft serve ice cream on a fish-shaped waffle cone filled with your choice of filling (we picked Nutella).
Bing Haus
This is rolled ice cream and it tastes so good! They actually mix the ice cream right there on a frozen pan together with your choice of fruit, it’s cool to watch. We ordered the Strawberry flavor is vanilla ice cream mixed in with strawberries, topped with cheesecake bites and animal crackers.
An’s Dry Cleaning
I love the theme for this ice cream shop, it looks just like a dry cleaner, it doesn’t say ice cream anywhere outside. I read that they got the place and it originally was called An’s Dry Cleaning and they decided to leave the name and remodeled it. They make gelato and the names of the ice cream are fabrics and change every day.
The little tables are iron boards, everything is themed! We got one called “Crochet” that has vanilla, almond and cherry. I really loved this one and think it’s very flavorful!
Stella Jean’s Ice Cream
This place has unique flavors, I wanted to try the mango sticky rice or the olive oil + coconut macaroon flavors but since it wasn’t my decision only we had the Salty Caramel Corn and we didn’t like it too much. I feel that it was the flavor and not the ice cream. I will like to come again and choose! I do recommend it though!
Mutual Friend
This is a very little place, a sister company of Dark Horse coffee. Nevertheless, the flavor is strong! We had the Raspberry lemonade and it was delish. By this point, we were almost full and I would say we didn’t enjoy it as much as we wanted but I could come back and try more another day!

RECORRIDO DE HELADOS EN SAN DIEGO
Una de las aventuras mensuales que le dimos a los niños esta Navidad pasada fue un recorrido de helados en San Diego que la verdad ha sido also muy anticipado y al parecer ¡si cumplió con las expectativas!
Así es como planeé el recorrido de helados de San Diego:
- Hice una búsqueda en Google de heladerías en San Diego y me enfoqué en tiendas únicas que no habíamos estado antes, ese fue mi criterio para elegir.
- Elegí 5 heladerías en total, aunque tenía una lista de 6, ¡pero 5 es realmente suficiente!
- En cada heladería, pedimos un helado y lo compartimos. Fue un poco difícil decidir el sabor ya que todos queríamos sabores diferentes pero nos tuvimos queue comprometer.
- Usamos esta hojita bien chévere de Oh Happy Day! para evaluar cada heladería, creo que fué algo divertido que ayudó en la aventura.
- Estos son los lugares a los que fuimos en nuestro recorrido de helados en San Diego: Somi Somi, Bing Haus, An’s Dry Cleaning, Stella Jeans y Mutual Friend.
A continuación les muestro nuestra opinión de cada uno:
Somi Somi
¡Este lugar es tan divertido y diferente! ¡Nos encantó! Sirven helado suave en un waffle en forma de pez y puedes elegir un relleno (nosotros elegimos Nutella).
Bing Haus
¡Este helado lo haccen enrollado y sabe riquísimo! De hecho, mezclan el helado allí mismo en una sartén congelada junto con la fruta que elijas, es cheverísimo ver el proceso. Nosotros pedimos que el sabor de fresa que lleva helado de vainilla mezclado con fresas, cubierto con pedacitos de torta de queso y galletas de animales.
An’s Dry Cleaning
Me fascina el tema de esta heladería, parece una tintorería tal cual y no dice helado en ninguna parte afuera! Leí que compraron el lugar y originalmente se llamaba Tintorería de An (An’s Dry Cleaning) y decidieron dejar el nombre así y remodelarlo. Aquí hacen Gelato y los nombres son de telas y cambian todos los días.
Las mesitas son tablas de planchar, ¡todo es temático! Nosotros pedimos uno llamado “Crochet” que tiene vainilla, almendra y cereza. ¡Este me encantó y me pareció divinísimo!
Stella Jean’s Ice Cream

Este lugar tiene sabores únicos, yo quería probar el arroz con mango o el de macarrones de coco con aceite de oliva, pero como aquí no fue mi decisión, probamos el de cotufas (palomitas) de caramelo con sal y no nos gustó mucho. Siento que fue el sabor y no el helado. ¡Me gustaría volver y elegir! Así que si les recomiendo que vayan.
Mutual Friend
Este es un lugar muy pequeño, una marca hermana del Dark Horse café. Sin embargo, el sabor es super fuerte! Probamos el de limonada de frambuesa y estaba delicioso. Ya aquí estábamos casi llenos y yo diría que no lo disfrutamos tanto como queríamos, ¡pero podría volver y probar más otro día!
