Who doesn’t worry about kid’s safety while going online? Right now Adrian and Maya are in the stage where they both love to spend hours on the Internet more than anything else and we have to be very careful to regulate their time but also to teach them to take care of themselves and protect them from the risks that the digital world can bring.

So today I want to introduce a great help, the new program launched by Google: Be Internet Awesome. In Spanish as “Se genial en internet”, is a wonderful way to help Latino families discuss internet safety at home together.

BE INTERNET AWESOME: HELPING KIDS BE SAFE ONLINE

Be Internet Awesome teaches 5 foundational lessons about digital safety and citizenship:

● Share with Care
● Don’t fall for Fake
● Secure your Secrets
● It’s Cool to Be Kind
● When in Doubt, Talk it Out

And all this is taught to kids through video games! How cool is that!? I think it’s perfect because they get the messages directly in their own language, fun and games.

 

I went to the event at South Gate School in Los Angeles where Google launched as Be Internet Awesome en Español as Sé genial en Internet across the US and Latin America.

They taught us how everything works. I loved the event because it was very interactive, they gave each kid a passport where they had to go through each lesson (video game) and get the corresponding stickers, at the end they gave them a diploma and they signed a contract where they promised to apply the lessons.

As soon as I got home I showed the program to Maya and Adrian and we played the games, it’s great to do it with them because I did learn as well.

I was helping Maya and she had to shoot some rays at different people, these rays symbolized information; if it was a password, for example, she couldn’t send it to the general public, she had to send it to a safe; if it was an embarrasing photo of a friend, it should be sent only to the trash. There were some questions that I did not even know who I should even send it to! So I learned 😉

CÓMO AYUDAR A LOS NIÑOS A MANTENERSE SEGUROS EN LA INTERNET

A quién no le preocupa la seguridad de sus hijos mientras navegan la internet?? Nosotros ahorita estamos de lleno en la etapa en que a Adrian y Maya les fascina pasarse horas en internet más que otra cosa y pues hay que estar muy pendientes de regularle el tiempo pero también de enseñarles a a cuidarse para protegerlos de los riesgos que puede traer el mundo digital.

Así que hoy les presento una gran ayuda, el nuevo programa que lanzó Google: Sé genial en Internet. Es una manera maravillosa de ayudar a familias latinas en su propio hogar a aprender de la seguridad en el mundo digital.

SE GENIAL EN INTERNET: AYUDANDO A NIÑOS A MANTENERSE SEGUROS EN INTERNET 

Se genial en internet enseña cinco lecciones fundamentales de la seguridad en línea y la ciudadanía digital:

● Comparte con cuidado
● No caigas en trampas
● Protege tus secretos
● Ser amable es genial
● Si tienes dudas, pregunta

Y todo esto se lo enseñan a lo niños a través de video juegos! Que tal? Me parece perfecto porque les llegan los mensajes directo en su lenguaje, el juego.

Les cuento que fui al evento en la escuela South Gate en Los Angeles donde lanzaron oficialmente el programa Se genial en internet en Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica y nos enseñaron cómo funciona todo.

Me pareció muy divertido porque fue bien interactivo el día, les dieron un pasaporte a cada niño donde debían pasar por cada lección (video juego) y obtener las calcomanías correspondientes, al final salieron con un diploma y hasta firman un contrato donde prometen aplicar los fudnamentos.

Yo apenas llegué les enseñé el programa a Mayita y a Adrian y estuvimos jugando, es bueno hacerlo con ellos porque uno también aprende.

Yo estuve ayudando a Maya y ella debía tirar unos rayos a diferentes personas, estos rayos simbolizaban información, si era una contraseña por ejemplo no debía mandarla a todo público, debía mandarla a la caja fuerte; si era una foto fea o penosa de una amiga debía mandarla sólo a la amiga o a la basura. Había algunas preguntas que ni yo sabía bien a quién podía mandarla! Así que aprendí 😉
