We live pretty close to La Jolla here in San Diego and I must confess that we don’t go as often as I would like to. Although, when Summer is here we do go pretty often to the beach during the weekends (La Jolla Shores) and in the recent years during our Staycations or Mami Camp I’ve included it in the schedule.

Since I kind of know what La Jolla has to offer I know where to take the kids to have fun, but of course, I always find something new because you never stop learning and discovering during these family adventures!

Today I want to tell you what you can do if you have half a day or a day with kids in La Jolla, San Diego.

CHILDREN’S POOL
First thing is to arrive at the Children’s Pool area to see the seals and sea lions. It is a very little beach that they make years ago especially for children but seals and sea lions came to make it their little house, so now it’s shared.

Even though it’s tiny, people like to come and settle in and bathe on the beach, that;s something you could do. I find it uncomfortable because of its size, I prefer to take the kids around the seawall, just walk and admire the birds and marine animals from there.

Kids love to hear the sounds that sea lions make, they start to imitate them and watch them swim, it’s super entertaining! That’s why I repeat it every year during Mami Camp.

LA JOLLA COVE
The other little beach nearby is La Jolla Cove, I almost always got confused with these two but I have it clear now: La Jolla Cove is the one that does not have a long lookout by the sea. In addition, it is next to a large park in front of the coast (the park is to the left). People also come and settle in La Jolla Cove but we just walk around it and enjoy the views.

TIDE POOLS
On the left side of Children’s Pool there are plenty of tide pools, that’s endless entertainment for the kids! Just look for a tide pool guide so you go when the tide is low, supposedly a low number of -0.7 is ideal. I still have to learn that myself.

SUNNY JIM CAVE

MURALS OF LA JOLLA
We took a ride in a car to see several murals around La Jolla and whenever possible we stepped out of the car and took pictures, it’s cool to see the urban art and also make the kids do funny faces, poses and jump in front of the murals for the photo! There is even a website with all the murals around La Jolla and they’re exact address right here.

LA JOLLA SHORES
Finally, I recommend to stay for the rest of the day at the big beach (La Jolla Shores) until sunset, it’s so beautiful. There is a lot of space for children to play in the sand and during the long days of Summer, it’s just such a wonderful place. What else can I tell you!? OH!! I like to go to the Vons that’s in La Jolla Village and buy some sandwiches to take to the beach, that way I don’t have to work preparing anything and we don’t have to stop at a restaurant!

I still don’t have the exact plans for our Staycations/Mami Camp this year, but most likely, I’ll take them to La Jolla the last day (It’s becoming a tradition!!) and buy food in a new restaurant to check it out!

UN DIA CON NIÑOS EN LA JOLLA, SAN DIEGO

 

A nosotros nos queda cerquita La Jolla aquí en San Diego y debo confesarles que no vamos tan a menudo como quisiera. Eso si, cuando es verano vamos bastante a la playa los fines de semana (La Jolla Shores) y en los últimos años durante Camp Mami la he incluido en el plan de seguro.

Como ya conozco mas o menos bien lo que tiene La Jolla, se a donde llevar a los niños para que se divertan, y claro, siempre encuentro algo nuevo porque uno nunca deja de aprender y descubrir en estas aventuras familiares.

Hoy les quiero contar lo que pueden hacer si tienen un día o medio día con niños en La Jolla.

CHILDREN’S POOL
Nosotros primero llegamos al área de Children’s Pool a ver las focas y los leones marinos. Es una playita muy chiquitica que hicieron hace años especialmente para niños pero las focas y los leones marinos llegaron a hacerla su casita!

Con todo y eso hay gente que viene, se instala y se baña en la playa. A mi me parece incómoda para eso porque es muy chiquita, prefiero pasear, caminar por el mirador y admirar a las aves y los animales marinos.

A los niños les encanta oir los ruidos que hacer los leones marinos, imitarlos y ver como nadan es super entretenido! Por eso lo repito cada año en nuestro Mami Camp.

LA JOLLA COVE
La otra playita que hay cerca de ahí es La Jolla Cove, yo casi siempre me confundía con estas dos pero ya lo tengo claro, La Jolla Cove es la que no tiene un mirador largo por el mar. Además, está al lado de un parque grande en frente de la costa. También la gente viene y se instala pero nosotros sólo paseamos, de igual manera es rico.

TIDE POOLS
Del lado izquierdo de Children’s Pool hay bastantes tide pools (pozos naturales), eso es un entretenimiento sin fín para los nenes! Sólo busquen la guía de cuando está la marea bien baja para pasearse por ahí, supuestamente un número bajo como -0.7 es lo ideal.

LA CUEVA SUNNY JIM CAVE

MURALES ALREDEDOR DE LA JOLLA
Una vez nos dimos un paseo en carro a ver varios murales alrededor de La Jolla y nos bajamos en uno a tomar fotos, es chévere ver el arte urbano y ade´mas poner a los niños a brincar delante del mural para la foto! Aquí pueden ver los que hay con todo y su dirección.

LA JOLLA SHORES
Por último quédense el resto del día en la playa (La Jolla Shores) hasta el atardecer, es demasiado rico y bello. Hay muchoe spacio pra que los niños jueguen en la arena y en los días largos de verano es una maravilla, que más les puedo decir! Ah, a mi me gusta ir al Vons que está en La Jolla Village y comprarnos unos sandwichitos para llevar a la playa, así no trabajo casi que nada haciéndo sandwiches en la casa!

Todavía no tengo los planes exactos de nuestro Camp Mami este año, pero lo más seguro es que vaya a La Jolla y compre comida en un restaurancito nuevo para ver que tal!
