Finding a summer camp that fits right is not that easy.
I think that when the kids are younger is easier but as they get older they know more of what they want and they won’t conform easily to just any activity at camp, and neither won’t we as parents because we want them to be engaged and happy.
As you might know, I sent Adrian to different types of day camps in San Diego before and we have loved them but our needs have changed, the one he was in last year he didn’t like it anymore. So off to look for a new camp we went and now for two kids (it’s the first time for Maya!), with a different schedule than a while back and with a different budget.
And we found a great one for this summer!! I feel so happy to see them happy that I can’t contain it so I had to come share.
The camp we found (thanks to another family that recommended it!) is at a Christian Church called Horizon here in San Diego. They are super well organized, the staff is helpful and wonderful with the kids, and the camps offered were so amazing. They had lots of different camps to choose from changing every two weeks, all divided per age and type like creativity camps, sports camps, fun camps and discovery camps. They also have day camps for preschool and junior high.
Adrian went to one called Wet and Wild where each day they went to somewhere with water, like the beach, a water park, community pools and more. He also went to a musical theater one where they did a whole musical in two weeks (One of his favorites)! He mastered some serious Lego skills too and he went to another one called Game On where they visited fun places like Laser Tag, Mini Golf and the whole two weeks they accumulated points and played games.
Maya was mostly in a camp called Kid’s Club where they did fun activities each day. The rest of the time she went to a couple other ones that she loved too, one that’s called Clay Mates where she worked with clay every day and painted lots of cute clay objects (This was her favorite camp) and another one called Little Adventures where they took them to fun places every day like bowling, the Safari park, game stores and more.
There was never a dull moment and they were always exhausted and happy each evening. It reminded me of the days I used to go to day camp and really loved it.
I was so excited for them that I took so many photos of them in the mornings when I dropped them off, so that’s why so many similar photos in this post! Oh and a couple of times I asked somebody to take a photo of us to have me in there as a memory too.
If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram you know that after this camp ended Mami Camp started! I did the staycation with the kids again this year and I can’t wait to share in another post, or two or three??!!

Encontrar un campamento de verano que se ajuste bien a cad familia no es tan fácil.
Creo que cuando los niños son más chiquitos es más fácil, pero a medida que crecen y saben más de lo que quieren y no se conforman fácilmente con un campamento que tenga cualquier actividad, y tampoco nosotros como padres porque queremos que estén contentos y felices todos los días.
A lo mejor ya saben si leen este blog desde hace mucho tiempo que Adrian ha estado en diferentes tipos de campamentos aquí en San Diego y que hemos tenido experiencias muy chéveres, pero nuestras necesidades han cambiado, y el campamento al que fué el año pasado no le gustaba más. Así que buscamos uno nuevo, y esta vez para dos niños (¡ya que fué la primera vez para Maya!), con un horario diferente y con un presupuesto diferente.
¡Y encontramos un campamento muy chévere este verano!! Me siento tan feliz de verlos felices que no puedo contenerlo así que tuve que venir a contarles cómo nos fué.
El campamento lo encontramos gracias a otra familia que nos lo recomendó y lo organiza una iglesia cristiana llamada Horizon aquí en San Diego. Me gustó mucho que son super bien organizados, el personal es muy amable y son un sol con los niños, además, los campamentos que ofrecen son increíbles. Tenían un montón de diferentes tipos de campamentos para elegir, cada dos semanas se puede elegir uno diferente, todo ello dividido por edad y por tipo de campamento como creatividad, campamentos deportivos, campamentos de diversión ycampamentos de descubrimiento. También tienen campamentos disponibles niños en preescolar y de secundaria.
Adrian fue a muchos, uno que se llamaba “Wet & Wild”, donde cada día iban a algún lugar con agua, como la playa, un parque acuático, piscinas públicas y demás. También fue uno de teatro musical donde hicieron todo un musical en dos semanas (uno de sus favoritos)! Fué a uno donde armaban Legos avanzados y otro que se llamaba “Game On” donde visitaron lugares de diversión como Laser Tag, Mini Golf y formaban equipos y acumulaban puntos.
Maya fué la mayoría del verano a un campamento llamado Club de niños donde se hicieron actividade generales divertidas cada día. El resto fue a un par de otros que le gustaron mucho, uno que se llama “Clay Mates” donde trabajó con arcilla todos los días y pintó un montón de objetos lindos en arcilla (Esta fué su favorito) y otro que se llamaba “Little Adventures” en el que los llevaron a lugares divertidos todos los días como al bowling, el parque Safari, tiendas de videos juegos y mucho más.
Creo que nunca hubo un momento aburrido y cada tarde cuando los iba a buscar estaban agotados y felices. Me hizo acordar cuando yo iba a campamentos de verano y como me encantaban.
Estaba tan emocionada con ellos que casi cada mañana antes de salir o al llegar allá les tomaba fotos,así que por eso tantas fotos muy parecidas en este post! Ah y un par de veces le pedí a alguien que nos tomara a los tres para tenerlas como recuerdos,
Si me siguen en Snapchat o en Instagram saben que después de que terminó este campamento, comenzó Mami Camp! Mami camp es una semana que me voy con los niños a explorar la ciudad y les hago el plan diario, se acuerdan que les conté el año pasado? Y este año ya les contaré también en un post o dos o tres!!??
