Making New Holiday Traditions

In our family we have quite a number of holiday traditions we like to do. I have shared most of those traditions before so I won’t go into details today. Although I am always excited when I see other traditions I like, being a multicultural family, there is always new ideas we can bring to the table, we try them and see if we like them, why not right?!

During the holidays I thought we could try changing the Friday pizza and movie night that we do into easy-food and holiday movie night. LOL! It’s very simple: Watch a holiday movie, don’t cook, just heat something up and relax. I’m excited that we can all watch a regular holiday family movie that’s not cartoons and everybody is interested plus I don’t have to make dinner so that title pretty much says it all.

You don’t know how happy this makes me! The cool part is that Derek enjoys these kind of movies too so I decided this should be a new tradition and whenever possible on Fridays or weekend nights or when the kids get out for the holiday break we can just have something easy to heat-up like Campbell’s Soup, eat and watch a cozy holiday movie.

We already started it last weekend with the movie Jingle All the Way 2. It was a good start and there will be many others to come… 

We all ate Campbell’s Soup but I gave the kid’s the new Campbell’s Special Edition Star Wars Soups which Adrian was really eager to try, the pasta is in the shape of classic “Star Wars” characters like Yoda, Darth Vader, R2D2, C3PO and Stormtroopers. I was amazed that even though Maya doesn’t like Star Wars, she was ok eating it, they both ate the whole plate of soup. I used to dislike characters getting into the food industry but now when I see it helps the kids eat sometimes I am thankful they exist!! 

I am liking this tradition because after a full day of work + holiday prepping or shopping we can all come together inside our cozy place and enjoy a new movie without much preparation! A real life moment we all need, relaxation and entertainment for all the family!

I think that I might also want to make a list of new traditions I would like to try, plus make a list of the traditions we already have, or will that too much?

En nuestra familia tenemos un buen número de tradiciones navideñas que nos gusta hacer. He compartido la mayor parte de esas tradiciones con ustedes antes, así que no voy a entrar en detalles hoy. Pero siempre me emociono al ver a otras tradiciones que me gustan, ya que como somos una familia multicultural, siempre hay nuevas ideas que podemos probar a ver si nos gustan, ¿por qué no verdad?!

Estas navidades pensé que podríamos probar cambiando un poco los viernes en la noche cuando vemos una película y comemos pizza y en vez, ver una película navideña y comer algo super fácil de preparar. Osea, es muy simple: Ver una película navideña, no cocinar, simplemente calentar algo y relajarnos. Estoy emocionada porque todos podemos ver una película familiar normal y no tiene que ser comiquitas (dibujos animados), a todos nos gusta y bueno lo mejor de todo es que no tengo que hacer la cena.

No saben lo feliz que esto me hace! Derek también disfruta de este tipo de películas que a veces son medio cursis, pero chéveres, jaja, así que decidí esto debería ser una nueva tradición y siempre que sea posible los viernes o los fines de semana o incluso ya que los niños salgan de vacaciones de navidad también lo podemos hacer. La idea es tener algo fácil de calentar como sopa de Campbell’s, comer y ver la película arropaditos todos en el sofá.

Ya empezamos el pasado fin de semana con la película Un padre en apuros 2. Fue un buen comienzo y ya veremos muchas más…

Todos comimos sopa de Campbell’s, pero le di a los niños la nueva edición especial de sopas Campbell’s Star Wars que Adrian estaba super ansioso por probar, la pasta que trae está hecha en la forma del los personajes clásicos de “Star Wars” personajes como Yoda, Darth Vader, R2D2, C3PO y Stormtroopers. Me sorprendió que a pesar de que Maya no le llama la atención Star Wars, se lo comió sin problemas, los dos se comieron todito el plato de sopa. A mi la verdad no me gustaba mucho que la comida tenga personajes también, pero ahora cuando veo que los emociona comer cosas de sus personajes favoritos me siento agradecida de que existan!

Me está gustando esta tradición porque después de un día completo de trabajo y de decorar e ir de compras, podemos todos sentarnos juntos arropaditos y disfrutar de una nueva película sin mucha preparación. Un momento de la vida real que todos necesitamos, descanso y entretenimiento para toda la familia!

Creo que me gustaría hacer una lista de tradiciones nuevas que me gustaría probar, y también una lista de las tradiciones que ya tenemos, ¿o será demasiado?
