Flagship Cruises invited us to take a cruise. As always, all opinions, ideas, and stories are 100% my own.
The San Diego Bay is so beautiful and the cool part is that there are plenty of activities to do in it and around it. Today I’ll tell you all about a tour we took on a cruise ship in the bay.
The tour we took is called San Diego Harbor Cruise Tour from Flagship Cruises, a locally- and family-owned company. They offer lots of other services, like whale watching, jet boats, water taxis, dinner cruises and more.
There are 3 options for the Harbor Tour: The south bay, the north bay or full bay. We chose the full bay harbor tour.
The cruise is a mid-size ship, it has indoor seating (restaurant type table and chairs) and outdoor seating as well. We immediately went to the top level and sat there. The views from the top are the best, plus you get to feel the wind and watch some of the birds that fly along with the ship.
It was the first time that the kids were on a boat so it was a little adventure for them. At the beginning they were kind of nervous but they got used to it quickly. Even though it was sunny and warm that day, when you are out in the bay and on a cruise, you do feel the cold breeze and the kids didn’t have sweaters. So if you go I recommend to bring sweaters.
I loved the tour because you get to learn a lot of interesting facts about the bay, for example:
- It took a long time to build the Coronado bridge because the Nay wouldn’t agree to the height (their ships needed to go underneath)
- The Marriot hotel also offers services and amenities to your yacht if you park in their marina.
- There are several areas where you can rent a boat to live in and there is a waiting list of years because the rent is so low (about $200)!
Snacks and drinks are available for sale, there is not a huge variety but they do let you in with your own food if you want to bring something. I wasn’t aware of that and we didn’t bring anything and of course the kids wanted to snack all the time.
There is not much to do in the cruise for the kids, I think a half bay tour for them is enough and it’s nice to take them so they experience it but I recommend to take some entertainment for them too just in case. I had a little sketchbook and a pen and that helped out for a while, we sat indoors and they enjoyed drawing what they saw.
Overall I think it’s such a great experience, to be able to tour the beautiful bay of San Diego, learn some new things, admire the beauty, socialize and be outdoors on the ocean. This is a very cool place in San Diego!

La Bahía de San Diego es tan bonita y lo mejor es que hay un montón de actividades que se pueden hacer alrededor de ella. Hoy les voy a contar todo acerca de un paseo que hicimos en un crucero por la bahía.
El tour que hicimos se llama San Diego Harbor Cruise Tour de Flagship Cruises, una compañía local y familiar. Ofrecen un montón de servicios, como paseos para la observación de ballenas, botes tipo jet, taxis acuáticos, cruceros con cena y más.
Hay 3 opciones para el paseo por la bahía: El paseo por el sur de la bahía, por el norte o la bahía completa. Nosotros escogimos el paseo de la bahía entera.
El crucero es un barco mediano, tiene asientos adentro (mesas y sillas tipo restaurante) y asientos al aire libre también. Inmediatamente que llegamos nos fuimos a el nivel de arriba y nos sentamos allí al aire libre. Las vistas desde el nivel superior son las mejores, y además puedes sentir el viento, el sol y ver algunas de los pájaros que muchas veces vuelan a la misma velocidad que el barco!
Para los niños fue la primera vez que se montaban en un barco, así que fue como una pequeña aventura para ellos. Al principio estaban un poco nerviosos, pero se acostumbraron rapidito. Aunque estaba soleado y caliente ese día, cuando ya estábamos navegando dentro de la bahía, sentimos la brisa fría y no les llevé suéteres a los niños. Así que si van les recomiendo llevar suéteres.
Me encantó el paseo porque se aprendí un montón de cosas interesantes sobre la bahía, por ejemplo:
- Se tomó mucho tiempo para construir el puente Coronado porque la fuerza naval no acordaba con la altura de los diseños (sus barcos tenían que ir por debajo).
- El hotel Marriott también ofrece servicios y comodidades si estacionas tu yate en su puerto.
- Hay varias áreas donde se puede rentar un barco para vivir y hay una lista de espera de años porque la renta es muy baja (alrededor de $200 al mes!).

Ofrecen algunos aperitivos y bebidas a la venta, pero me pareció que no hay una gran variedad. Lo bueno es que te dejan entrar con tu propia comida si quieres llevar algo. Yo no me percaté de eso antes de ir y por supuesto que los niños querían merienda todo el tiempo.
No hay mucho que hacer en el crucero para los niños, creo que un paseo de media bahía para ellos es suficiente y es chévere llevarlos para que lo experimenten, pero yo recomiendo llevar algo de entretenimiento para ellos por si acaso. Yo tenía un cuaderno chiquito de dibujo y una pluma que les gustó por un rato, disfrutaron dibujando adentro en una mesa.
En general creo que es una experiencia muy chévere, se puede recorrer la bahía de San Diego que es bien linda, aprender cosas nuevas, admirar la belleza, socializar y estar al aire libre en el mar. Este es un lugar muy chévere en San Diego!
