This little latin restaurant and market in San Diego, Tropical Star, might be one of the best cool places in San Diego I know. I drive past by it lots of time and before going in I was always curious.
The first time I went in was with a couple of friends to have dinner and I was enchanted! I couldn’t stop looking at everything and I didn’t know what to choose from the menu cause I wanted to try it all! But I breathed and decided and had a great time.
After that I came back often and I still do. Most of the times is because I buy Harina Pan which is the flour that we make arepas with (the most traditional Venezuelan food) and other little things I find like now they have Cocosetes.
I was looking for places in San Diego to make another of these features and then I paused and thought, wait a minute, Tropical Star is PERFECT for this! I go there often and was almost not thinking of it as special!
It has it’s great personality, if you are looking for a Latin-American variety food menu you can can definitely find it here, you can find ingredients to make latin food you might not be able to find anywhere else in San Diego, you can also find accessories, t-shirts, cookbooks, cookware plus the service is excellent. What else do we want?
The funny thing is that the four of us haven’t really been there together to eat. For these pictures time I took Maya with me. It was hard to decide on which photos to use, that’s why they are so many in this post but look at them closely, enjoy them, I think the fun part is to look through all those products and discover the ones you like, right? I do that a little every time I go.
It is a tiny place but you will LOVE it, cozy, friendly and delicious, if you come to San Diego and want to have some delicious latin food near Clairemont, stop by Tropical Star!

Este restaurancito y mercadito latino en San Diego, Tropical Star, podría ser uno de los mejores “cool places” en San Diego que conozco. Yo paso por ahí a cada rato y antes de entrar por primera vez me mataba la curiosidad.
La primera vez que fuí fue con unas amigas a cenar y ¡me fascinó! No podía dejar de ver todo y no sabía ni qué pedir para comer, quería probar todo! Pero respiré, decidí y la pasé chévere.
Después de eso regresé bastantes veces of course y todavía lo hago. La mayoría de las veces voy a comprar Harina Pan (la harina para hacer arepas) y otras cositas que encuentro como Cocosetes!
Yo estaba buscando lugares en San Diego para hacer otro de estos posts (Cool Places in San Diego) y no me di cuenta que lo tenía en frente de mis ojos, y dije, espera un minuto, Tropical Star es perfecto para esto! Voy ahí a cada rato, casi me pasa por desapercibido!
Tropical Star tiene una gran personalidad, si están buscando un menú con variedad de comida latinoamericana aquí la pueden encontrar, también pueden encontrar los ingredientes para cocinar comida latina que probablemente muchas de ellas no las encontrarán en cualquier otro lugar de San Diego; también pueden encontrar coroticos latinos, camisetas, libros de cocina, utensilios de cocina y el servicio es EXCELENTE. ¿Qué más se puede pedir?
Lo curioso es que nosotros cuatro no hemos ido a comer juntos ahí todavía. Para estas fotos que tomé llevé a Mayita conmigo. Me fué difícil decidir qué fotos de usar, es por eso que hay tantas en este post pero veanlas con detalle, disfruten jaja!, creo que es la parte más divertida, ver todos los productos uno por uno y descubrir los que más nos gustan no? Cada vez que voy me pongo a jurungar un poquito!
Es un lugar pequeñito, como una taguarita o bodega pero les va a encantar, es acogedor, la gente es super amable y la comida rica, si están en San Diego y cerca de Clairemont y quieren comer comida latina sencilla, pasen por Tropical Star!
