I really didn’t know how much can be done out of an used glass bottle!
Not too long ago I was introduced to this new store in my neighborhood: Bottles and Wood. They make great homeware and jewelry out of used bottle and wood.
At first you think, oh ok, they make glasses of the bottom part of beer and wine bottles, nice, I’ve seen that before. And it is very nice but not only they make glasses, they also use other parts of the bottles to make hurricanes, candle holders and light fixtures, they even melt the whole bottle and make pretty trays with it. The possibilities of great repurposed products seem to become endless here!
I had the opportunity to visit for a special event with other San Diego bloggers where we made our own jewelry with what they had. They had a table set-up with everything we needed, it was pretty easy and they also showed us the process of how they prepare and handle everything in their workshop (behind the store) so I took some photos to show you here, it’s fascinating.
Most of their jewelry comes from the neck of the bottles, they have earrings, bangles and necklaces. I made myself the turquoise loop earrings that you can see in the picture.
We didn’t see much of the wood process this time but they get wood from wine barrels, fence boards, and pallets. The designs they come up with are unique, I love their style in every single product.
It’s such and inspiration to on upcycling, design and sustainability, what does it inspire you to make?

No hace mucho tiempo conocí esta tiendita nueva por aquí cerca: Bottles and Wood. Hacen y venden artículos para el hogar y joyería con botellas usadas y madera.
Al principio pensé, ah que bien, hacen vasos con la parte de abajo de las botellas de la cerveza y las botellas de vino, que bonitos, los he visto antes y si son lindos. Pero no sólo hacen vasos, también utilizan otras partes de las botellas y hacen huracanes, candelabros y lámparas, incluso derriten toda la botella y logran hacer unas bandejas bien bonitas. ¡Las posibilidades de hacer productos con material usado, dándoles nueva vida parecen volverse interminables aquí!
Tuve la oportunidad de visitar la tienda para un evento especial con otras blogueras de San Diego, donde hicimos nuestra propia joyería con lo que ellos tienen. Tenían una mesa lista con todo lo que necesitábamos, fué bastante fácil y divertido, también nos mostraron el proceso de cómo se preparan los materiales y como hacen todo en su taller (que está detrás de la tienda), así que tomé algunas foticos para mostrarles aquí, es fascinante.
La mayor parte de las joyas que venden las hacen con el cuello de las botellas, tienen aretes, pulseras y collares. Yo me hice las argollitas de color turquesa que las pueden ver en la foto.
No vimos mucho del proceso de la madera esta vez pero ellos obtienen su madera de los barriles de vino, tablas de la cerca, y las pallets (carretillas o montacargas de madera). Los diseños que ellos hacen son únicos, me encanta el estilo en cada producto.
