During the Summer we have a new tradition that started out last year, I take one week off and plan a Staycation with the kids.

By doing it again this Summer I was able to confirm how much I really do LOVE this special week for many reasons: I get to spend quality time with the kids, just me and them; we get to explore and learn more about our beautiful city and we create so many wonderful memories together.

As I’ve mentioned before, I plan for it to be the last week of Summer before school starts. This year we got to go a little bit away from the city a couple of days which was different and fun.

I will be sharing our adventures in several posts as each day needs a dedicated post and has tons of photos!

Spruce Street Suspension Bridge

The very first day we went to downtown to visit the Spruce Street Suspension bridge. It’s a hidden San Diego bridge, not many people know about it, it’s quite interesting because you never expect to find a bridge like that inside the city!!

The bridge was built in 1912 for people to be able to walk across the deep canyon and go to the new trolley system in 4th and 5th avenues. We walked across it several times but it is a bit scary, especially when you’re in the middle, it sways a lot.

The kids were scared and didn’t want to walk across it but after being there for a while they started to loosen up and Adrian, mostly, started to run back and forth. Then, I was the one scared that he would fall!!

From the middle of the bridge, you get to see the valley landscape and it’s very nice and lush, so interesting how all this greenery covers the city, it’s a perfect combination of coexistence between nature and city. There seems to be a path to hike down in the canyon and Adrian wanted to go but we didn’t, I think next time we will add the hiking to this adventure.

VACACIONES EN LA CIUDAD + PUENTE COLGANTE EN SPRUCE STREET

En el verano tenemos una nueva tradición que comenzó el año pasado, me tomo una semana libre y planifico unas vacaciones en nuestra ciudad con los niños.

Este año, al hacerlo por segunda vez, confirmé lo mucho que ME ENCANTA hacer esto y por varias razones: Paso calidad de tiempo con los niños, sólo ellos yo; eExploramos y aprendemos más acerca de la hermosa ciudad donde vivimos y creamos muchos recuerdos lindos juntos.

Como he mencionado antes, la planeo para que sea la última semana de vacaciones de verano antes de que empiecen las clases. Este año hasta visitamos un poquito más lejos de la ciudad un par de días, lo cual fue diferente y divertido.

 

Les compartiré todas nuetras aventura en varios posts, ya que cada día es un cuento que necesita de un post completo y además tienesu respectivo montón de fotos.

Puente colgante en Spruce Street 

El primer día fuimos al centro a visitar el puente colgante de Spruce Street. Es un puente escondido en San Diego, no mucha gente sabe acerca de él, es muy interesante porque nunca te esperas encontrar un puente así dentro de la ciudad!!

El puente fue construido en 1912 para que la gente pudiera atravesar el barranco tan profundo y poder ir a usar el nuevo sistema de tranvía (trolley) en lasavenidas 4ª y 5ª . Nosotros atravesamos el puente varias veces, p’allá y p’acá pero si da miedito, especialmente cuando estás en el medio, se balancea mucho.

Los niños tenían miedo y no querían ni caminar un poquito al principio, pero después de estar allí por un tiempo se atrevieron y tranquilizaron tanto que empezaron a correr por todo el puente (más que todo Adri). Entonces después yo era la que tenía miedo de la coredera que tenían!

Desde el medio del puente se ve el paisaje del valle y es bien agradable, super frondoso e interesante cómo toda esa zona verde cubre a la ciudad en ese pedazo, es una combinación perfecta de convivencia entre naturaleza y ciudad. Parece que hay un camino a la caminata hacia abajo en el cañón y Adrian quería ir pero no lo hicimos, creo que la próxima vez vamos a añadir el senderismo a esta aventura.
