I’ve mentioned before how we love to go hiking as a family. I’ve really gotten into it as time passes even though at first I used to think it was boring!
When Summer comes around we always get excited to experience the outdoors so much and this time we finally went hiking to the famous Torrey Pines reserve. I’ve seen it in magazines, on Instagram and I’ve heard people talk about it but never been.
To tell you the truth, what had stopped me was the parking cost. That’s the first thing you have to be aware of but once you get over that it’s totally worth it! You can also find parking on the street but it will be far and if you go with little ones like ours, it won’t be possible, they’ll get tired before arriving at the first trail.
What I loved about this place is that it has all sort of nature entertainment. Here is what you can expect from hiking Torrey Pines:
- You get to see wonderful different plants, animals, and insects, it’s like going to a museum, there are signs indicating the plants’ names and what they are.
- There are a variety of difficulty level trails, we did some inclines, it gives you a good workout and there are easy ones too.
- You get rewarded with amazing views of the ocean from up high and there are wonderful benches and little corners made special for you to sit and admire such beauty.
- You can walk down to the beach if you feel like combining the hike with beach time too.
- It’s all very well maintained, you just have to follow the trails and be ready to admire such beautiful nature!
In this hike we discovered the lemonade berry tree, it said in one of the signs that we could rub the berries with our fingers and then taste how tart they are. Well, this was so fascinating! We all did that and it tastes like lemonade! The kids LOVED this and after this, we kept looking at all the trees to see if we spotted the lemonade berry ones. It might sound corny but I know we will remember this hike forever, the four of us enjoyed it so much and made incredible memories.
We went hiking to Torrey Pines towards the end of the day on a Sunday (around 6pm), I think it was perfect timing because the sunset was at 8pm, so by the time we were coming down we got to see the sun setting in the ocean, it was perfect! Oh and I was so happy that I did take my big camera, I enjoyed taking all these photos. We will be back for sure!

PRIMERA VEZ DE EXCURSION A TORREY PINES
Ya les he contado antes que nos gusta mucho ir hiking (de excursión o caminata). Realmente le he agarrado mucho el gusto con el tiempo porque antes me parecía medio aburrido.
Entonces cuando llega el verano siempre nos emocionamos y queremos salir a disfrutar al aire libre, y esta vez finalmente nos fuimos de excursión a un sitio famoso aquí en San Diego, la reserva Torrey Pines. Lo he visto en las revistas, en Instagram y he oído a la gente hablar de este lugar pero nunca había ido.
La verdad verdad, que no lo pensaba mucho porque el estacionamiento es costoso y no hay tanto lugar para estacionarse en la calle, (tomen eso en cuenta si quieren ir!), pero una vez que llegas a esa excursión te das cuenta ¡que vale muchísimo la pena! Y si pueden encontrar etacionarmiento en la calle, pero queda más lejos y si vas con niños pequeños no van a poder, se cansarán de la caminata antes si quiera de llegar al primer caminito!
Lo que más me gusta de este lugar es que, es como un parque de diversiones de la naturaleza. Esto es lo que pueden encontrar si van a un hike en Torrey Pines:
- Tienes la oportunidad de ver variedad de plantas, animales e insectos maravillosas, es como ir a un museo, hay avisitos que te dicen cómo se llaman las plantas y lo que son.
- Hay muchas rutas para caminar (lo que llaman trails) con diferentes niveeles de dificultad, hicimos unas bastante empinadas y sientes que tu cuerpo hace un buen de ejercicio.
- Las vistas al mar desde allá arriba es como el regalo que te da el ejercicio y la caminata, y hay banquitos y rincositos bellísimos para sentarse a admirar tanta belleza.
- Se puede caminar directo a la playa si tienes ganas de combinar la excursión con un rico día de playa.
- Todo está tan bien mantenido, sólo tienes que seguir los caminos y estar dispuesto a admirar la naturaleza que te rodea!
En esta caminata descubrimos el árbol que se llama “lemonade berry”, en uno de los avisos leímos que podíamos agarrar una de las bayas que tiene el árbol y frotarla con los dedos y probar de tus dedos el sabor ácido que dejan. ¡Bueno, esto resultó fascinante! Lo hicimos y si nos supo a limonada! Los niños porsupuesto encantados con esto y entonces después nos la pasamos viendo todos los árboles para reconocer cuáles eran “lemonade berry”. Puede que suene cursi pero esta experiencia, esta excursión, se que la recordaremos por siempre, fueron momentos muy divertidos para los cuatro.
A esta de excursión de Torrey Pines fuimos hacia el final del día en un domingo (alrededor de 6pm), creo que fue el momento perfecto, porque la puesta de sol fue a las 8pm, así que ya cuando estábamos bajando el sol se estaba poniendo en el mar, ¡una cosa hermosa! Ah, y yo estaba tan feliz que me llevé mi cámara grande, disfruté muchísimo tomando fotos. ¡Seguro que volveremos!
