I went to Tijuana about a week ago and because Día de los Muertos is coming up I knew there would be decorations all over plus I wanted to get some to decorate the house and use in our altar for Día de muertos. There are so many!!
I went to the market which has the most and it was also like a Photowalk for me, even though I wasn’t able to buy everything it was nice to be able to take pictures and bring them here to show you. That’s were I also saw the huge catrina piñatas!
I got only 3 things this time but I think little by little as the years pass I can get more decorations and some things are made out of candy like sugar skulls so they won’t last forever anyway.
My favorites were these little Catrinas that hang, they are about 6 inches tall, they are sooo cute! I got one of those and I got a mini catrina piñata plus the little sugar skulls that Maya keeps asking if she can eat! Oh and a mini papel picado as well, I love all the mini things!!
I loved the mini dishes with food for the dead and mini altars too. It made me think why didn’t I pay more attention to this tradition when I lived in Mexico? I am so drawn to the colors and to the meaning of everything, I think it is so important to remember our closed ones that has passed away in a colorful and lively way.

DECORACIONES DE DÍA DE MUERTOS
La semana pasada me pasé por Tijuana y como se que se acerca el Día de los Muertos sabía que habría decoraciones y cositas para los altares en todos lados y además que quería conseguir unas cositas para decorar la casa y para nuestro altar del día de muertos, hay tantas!!
Me metí en el mercado que tiene muchos y también me funcionó como Photowalk (caminata para tomar fotos), a pesar de que no podía comprar todo lo bueno es que pude tomar fotos y traerlas aquí para mostrarles. Ese mismo día fué cuando vi las piñatas de catrinas enooormes!
Solamente compré 3 cositas esta vez, pero creo que poco a poco a medida que pasen los años puedo ir comprando más y también muchas cosas están hechas de mazapán o azúcar como calaveras de azúcar por lo que no van a durar para siempre de todas maneras.
Mis favoritos son las catrinas chiquiticas que cuelgan, miden como unas 6 pulgadas de alto, ¡son una belleza! Compré una de esas, compré una mini piñata de catrina y las calaveritas de azúcar chiquitas que Maya me pregunta a cada rato si ya se las puede comer 🙂 Ah y un papel picado chiquitico también! ¡Me canta todo lo mini!
Me encantaron los mini platos con comida para los muertos y los mini altares también. Me puse a pensar ¿por qué no le puse más atención a esta tradición cuando vivía en México? Me atraen tantos los colores y el significado de todo, creo que es tan importante recordar a nuestros familiares fallecidos de una manera colorida, positiva y feliz.

Were the items at the market very expensive? What was the cost of those little dangling catrinas?

September 20, 2018 at 9:52 pmThe items are very affordable, I don’t remember exactly the cost but the little sugar skulls were about a dollar or less depending on the size, the hanging catrinas were probably around $3. I got one of those, sugar skulls and a mini piñata.
