Work, Family & Fun with a Samsung Tablet

We received this Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet from Staples.com and a couple of days later that we were all using it my first thought was: How did we live without it? I believe these type of products will be a standard in all households very soon.
It’s similar to saying how did we all survive without using cellphones before? I don’t know but I do know that this Samsung tablet is great and I’m going to tell you why, how we all use it around here and what we like the most.


Reading, reading and more reading

Derek has a Kindle and with the Kindle app he is able to read his books there, that’s what he has been doing when he gets to use the tablet. It has a function to recognize if your eyes are looking and if they’re not it will go on sleep mode quicker.
And of course, we have started to look for and download other apps to read book for the kids and for them to read by themselves too.
We found iStorybooks which is free and has lots of books in there, the kids open it by themselves and start reading; well, Maya for example can open it by herself and let the app read the book to her. In the pictures she is reading Cinderella. And it also comes with a couple of books in Spanish.

I am thinking that when Adrian goes back to school there must be lots of apps that will help him with fun activities to learn, can’t wait to immerse myself in all those. I already found this website that recommends tons of apps for kids: iGameMom, check it out, it has tons of stuff and if you can recommend any, please do!

Time to Play

Even I have started to play some games, something I usually don’t do but it’s so easy and inviting and fun to distress with it anywhere; see, you don’t have to be sitting down at your computer or have a big laptop with you, that’s why I like it, it fits easy in my hand.


I found the cutest app for the kids that has games and books, it’s not free but it’s totally worth it, it’s called Pango, the kids are in love with it, it’s an interactive book. I already want to get more books plus it doesn’t hurt that the design is perfect. The first book is free: Pango Book 1. Check out the video below to see us reading and interacting with it!


Also, I need to mention that as soon as we got it I downloaded Netflix and Hulu, I watch tv in the tablet, so convenient.

Work on the go and Social Networks

It connects easily to the internet, it can save documents that you can access quickly as well as pictures. One great thing you can do with photos for example, is that it comes with 50GB of storage in DropBox and you can set it to automatically upload your pictures there (I do this with my phone too). The other day I was in LA while Derek was here with the kids at the pool, he took pictures with the tablet and they uploaded right away and I was able to see them in my dropbox without him sending anything! That was magic! Many many features similar to that can happen with other apps. I love to pin from there, use Facebook, Instagram, etc. For social media it is great!

A Stylus Pen

And this is my most favorite part of the tablet! It comes with what they call an S Pen, and it’s integrated, you pull it out of the bottom, similar as how you would pull out a radio antenna so it’s always with you when you need it. For me is perfect because I can write easily and draw. Their S Note App is pretty cool, it has templates for you to create idea notes (drawing), magazine style notes, recipe notes and more. It comes in handy to make documents. It gives a more precise function to any app, it’s not only to draw…
I am enjoying the pen a lot (You can see me using it on the video). Still looking for other apps to draw but haven’t found any other good ones, for now the S Note is great, looking forward to taking this tablet to a conference and using the pen to take notes!
There are many tablets this size out there right now but I think this one has great capabilities for the whole family to take advantage of, we do really work, we play and we have fun with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8!

Recibimos esta tableta Samsung Galaxy Note 8 de parte de Staples.com y unos días después de que todos la empezamos a usar ya se hizo parte importante de la familia por lo que pensé: Cómo le hacíamos antes de tenerla? 
Yo creo que este tipo de productos serán un estándar en los hogares en un futuro cercano. Es así como ver como ahora todos usamos celulares y antes no los teníamos, cómo le hacíamos? Nosé pero lo que si se es que esta tableta Samsung es muy chévere y les voy a decir porqué, como la usamos nosotros y lo que más nos gusta de ella.

Leer, leer y leer

Derek tiene un Kindle y enseguida bajó la aplicación del Kindle en la tableta y eso es lo que más le gusta hacer con la tableta, leer sus libros allí. La tableta tiene una función que ayuda a reconocer si estás mirando, si no estás mirando se pone en sleep mode más rápido para ahorrar.


Y porsupuesto, empezamos a buscar apps para leerle libros a los niños y para que ellos lean solitos también. 



Encontramos iStorybooks, una app que es gratis y tiene bastantes libros, los niños la abren solitos y empiezan a leerlos, bueno, Mayita la abre y deja que la app le lea. En las fotos ella está leyendo un libro de Cenicienta. Y por cierto hay unos libros en español también.


Estoy pensando que para cuando Adrian empieze el colegio en septiembre seguro podré tener varias aplicaciones buenas para que haga actividades de matemáticas, lectura, etc. Ya las quiero buscar! 


Encontré este site que recomienda bastantes aplicaciones para niños: iGameMom, chéquenla, tienen bastantes cosas y por supuesto si me pueden recomendar alguna, bienvenida sea!


Hora de jugar!

Hasta yo que nunca juego bajé unos jueguitos, me desestresa un poco, son divertidos y es que donde sea puedo jugar, no tengo que estar sentada en el escritorio con la compu o cargar la laptop, por eso me gustan más.


Encontré una app muy linda para los niños, se llama Pango y tiene libros interactivos y juegos, no es gratis pero de verdad vale la pena. El primer libro es gratis: Pango Book 1, ya quiero bajar los demás, a los niños les FASCINA con mayúsculas y a mi me encanta el diseño también. Vean en el video de aquí arriba un poquito de la interacción de los niños con Pango.


También, debo agregar que bajé Netflix y Hulu de inmediato, super necesario y he visto ya tele en la tableta, se ve excelente!

Trabajo y redes sociales

Se conecta fácilmente a la internet en todos lados y puedes guardar documentos a los que puedes acceder rápido al igual que fotos. Una de las cosas que puedes hacer con las fotos por ejemplo es usar el Dropbox que viene con 50GB de almacenaje, lo puedes setear para que todas las fotos que tomes con la tableta se suban automáticamente allí (yo hago esto con mi teléfono).

El otro día yo estaba en Los Angeles y Derek aquí en San Diego con los niños en la piscina, tomó fotos y de inmediato se subieron a mi Dropbox y yo las pude ver rápido sin que el me tuviera que mandar nada, fué como magia! Cosas como esta y muchas más pasan con otras apps. A mi me encanta estar en Pinterest ahí! Ay, que relax! Pin y pin desde el sofá! Uso Facebook, Instagram y todas las demás, para las redes sociales está divina!

Una plumita Stylus

(Créanme que busqué un término técnico para referirme a la plumita pero ninguno me pareció mejor que plumita!) 
Esta es mi función favorita de la tableta. La plumita viene incluida, se llama S Pen y está integrada tipo antena de radio, se jala desde una esquinita de la tableta así que estés donde estés la puedes usar sin que se te olvide. Para mi es perfecta porque se hace fácil de dibujar y escribir a mano. Hay una aplicación que trae incluida que se llama S Note, es bastante buena, trae plantillas para crear notas de todo tipo, para dibujar, unas tipo revista, otras tipo receta, etc etc. La verdad viene bien útil.
Estoy disfrutando de la plumita mucho (en el video me pueden ver usándola)! Todavía busco más aplicaciones para sacarle más provecho pero no he encontrado, así que la S Note está muy bien por ahora!
Hay muchas tabletas de este tamaño en el mercado ahorita pero a mi me parece que esta tiene muy buenas capacidades para que toda la familia le saque provecho, de verdad que nosotros trabajamos, jugamos y gozamos con la tableta Samsung Galaxy Note 8!
