Cool Places in San Diego: Viva Pops

Today I am happy to announce a new section I decided to create in the blog: Cool Places in San Diego.

After living here for almost 2 years already (time flies!) I still feel I don’t know many of the great places there are to go in this town and that I want to explore them more. So this is a great excuse! I will explore at least one once a month and share it here with you, that way when you come you have some options and I will learn more and more of the wonderful city I live in, I am embracing it, yes!

I want to go anywhere, restaurants, shops, parks, whatever place looks fun and cool to me in San Diego.

Viva Pops

This popsicle shop literally “popped” in front of my eyes the first time I drove by and I immediately wrote it down in my memory as a place I wanted to go one day. It IS the kind of place I get drawn into: bold, bright colors, fun name plus yummy food: Cool!

Well, let me tell you Viva pops doesn’t disappoint, it has lots of fun, yummy and -best of all- unique flavors of popsicles, just take a look at the board of flavors, they have awesome combinations: Pineapple mint, apple pie, blackberry chocolate, watermelon lime, guava OJ coconut, etc, etc.

For the kids I ordered the simpler flavors just in case; they had a strawberry basil. Derek had a Mango Chili and I had a delicious Key Lime Pie.

I would go back and try every single flavor if I could! The popsicles are $3+ each and there are selections available with and without dairy, vegan or sugar free.

Other fun facts about Viva Pops:

• They are inspired by the festive colors and flavors of traditional Mexican-style pops called “paletas”
• They are all natural
• They recycle the popsicle sticks 
• They sell related popsicle related items
• They have the cutest kid chairs
• The shop has a huge colorful mural of a huge popsicle 
• Make sure you come with cash! They don’t take cards!

Después de ya tener casi 2 años viviendo aquí (como pasa el tiempo!) todavía siento que no conozco muchos lugares a donde ir en esta ciudad y quiero explorar más. Así que esto es una gran escusa! Saldré a explorar al menos un lugar nuevo al mes y lo compartiré con ustedes aquí, así el día en que vengan tendrán varias opciones que pueden ver aquí y al mismo tiempo yo aprenderé y conoceré más de la linda ciudad donde vivo!

Quiero ir a cualquier lugar, ya sea restaurant, tienda, parque, lo que sea que se me llame la atención y se vea chévere en San Diego.

Viva Pops

Esta tienda de paletas me saltó a la vista apenas le pasé por enfrente e inmediatamente la grabé en mi mente como un lugar al que quería entrar a probar. Me identifiqué al instante: colores vivos y fuertes, nombre divertido y comida diferente, en pocas palabras: Muy chévere!

Bueno, y cuando entré Viva Pops no me desilucionó, tiene paletas ricas y, lo mejor de todo, sabores únicos, nada más vean unos ejemplos de combinaciones en la pizarra: Piña/menta, tarta de manzana, chocolate/frambuesa, sandía/limón, guayaba/jugo de naranja/coco, etc, etc.

Para los niños les pedí sabores simples porsia: la de fresa/albahaca. Derek pidió Mango/chile y yo me comí una de tarta de limón.

Yo si pudiera regresaría a comerme una de cada sabor para probarlos! Las paletas cuestan $3+ cada una y se puede escoger entre unas sin azúcar, sin leche o vegan.
