Adrian knows he is bilingual, and I had the proudest moment of raising this little boy bilingual…
During our visit to Dreamworks they showed us a presentation of how animation movies are made. Right after it finished the person who was taking us in the tour asked everybody if there was any questions about the little movie we just watched, and guess who was the first one to raise his hand?
Yes, it was Adrian! He asked why did they have to make the movie in other languages if they already had it in English (So cute!! I was already speechless and breathless just with his question, I have never seen him interact like this). The guy answered something like well, there are people who don’t know other languages like Spanish, Chinese… And Adrian interrupted: –But I know English and Spanish. Well yes you do! The guy kept explaining and other people had more questions and even Adrian asked other questions that I can’t remember at the moment but I couldn’t stop thinking about his acknowledgement of knowing 2 languages. It has payed off so well to only speak Spanish to him. I am SO PROUD!
I want to remind you that I started exclusively speaking Spanish to Adrian when he was 2, before that I spoke English to him too. Derek doesn’t speak Spanish so we use what’s called the OPOL method (One Parent One Language) and we have gone through phases where he wont speak it too much or says he doesn’t know some words, but consistency is key and patience and love for our language overall. I don’t ever make it seem like a chore, I try to talk pretty nice when I ask him to speak Spanish if I need to. But really for him it’s already second nature, and he knows that he knows! Very good hijito!!
otros idiomas si ya la tenían en Inglés (La verdad que yo estaba boquiabierta
nada más de verlo levantando su mano y preguntando, que cuchi!!!). El
muchacho respondió que bueno, existen personas que no saben otros
idiomas como el español, chino… Y Adrian interrumpió: -Pero yo se
Inglés y Español. Y el muchacho dijo: -Bueno, claro que si pero hay
otras personas que no saben y bla bla blá. Otras personas hicieron más
preguntas y hasta Adrian hizo otra pregunta que no me acuerdo cuál fué
pero es que no podía dejar de pensar es lo que dijo y cómo estaba seguro
de si mismo y reconoce claramente sus 2 idiomas. La verdad ha sido una maravilla el hablarle sólo en español todo este tiempo, estoy muy orgullosa!
Adrian desde que tenía 2 años, anets de eso le hablaba en inglés y
español, los dos. Derek no habla español así que usamos lo que le dicen
el método OPOL (Cade padre usa un idioma) y hemos pasado etapas en las
que no le gusta hablar el español o dice que no sabe pero aquí la
paciencia, el ser consistente el amor por nuestro idioma es la clave en
todo esto. Yo trato de nunca hacerle sentir que es una tarea para el o
que lo tiene que hacer obligado. Para el ya es algo innato y ya el sabe
que sabe! Muy bien hijito!

Ella todavía no habla completamente, pero desde ya se ha mostrado bilingüe. Me hace gracia porque ella le dice a uno las cosas que se sabe en los dos idiomas. Dice "vamos", "go,go,go". Te felicito, ya lo verás también con Maya.
