The Glider/La Mecedora

As I mentioned before, the Glider chair where Maya sits for her pictures has a little history. Well, here it is:

1. A friend in the mom’s group posts that she is giving a glider for free that came with a set of used furniture she got.

2. I say: Me, Me!

3. We go pick it up and this is what I get:

4. I quickly think, this chair needs a re-do (One side of my brain says: Let’s add another project on your pregnant to-do list as if I don’t have enough; The other side of my brain says: But I love to be able to personalize and make this chair beautiful, and it’s fun! I don’t care!). Well, guess who wins??

5. I enjoy going shopping for fabrics with my sister to downtown L.A.

6. I’m not good at sewing so I found somebody to sew the new covers for the chair’s pillows.

7. I bought sanding paper, primer and paint and painted the chair! (Note: Toddler needs to have his painting materials and activity too, otherwise who knows what can happen!–see picture–)(Second Note: This step took several days)

8. Final product, I LOVE it!

The last step is not finished completely since I was painting the chair the day before my water broke!! If the day my water broke would’ve been sunny I would’ve been painting! So, I still need to paint one more cover on the bottom (good thing nobody can tell!).

Ya mencioné que la mecedora donde le tomo las fotos a Maya tiene una historia, aquí les va:

1. Una amiga en el grupo de mamás dijo que tenía una mecedora gratis para quien la quisiera porque le vino extra con una compra de muebles usados.

2. Yo la pedí rapidamente.

3. La fuimos a buscar y esta es la silla que nos entregaron:

4. Inmediatamente pensé: esta silla necesita un cambio de look. (Un lado de mi dice: Si, ok, agrega otro proyectito a tu lista de cosas que hacer antes de que nazca la bebé; El otro lado dice: Que importa! Con lo que me gusta poner las cosas bonitas y personalizarlas, porque no??). Bueno, quien creen que ganó??

El último paso no lo he terminado por completo ya que estuve pintando la silla hasta el día anterior de que se me rompiera la fuente, si no fuera porque ese día llovió hubiera estado pitnando la silla cuando se me rompió la fuente! Así que todavía me falta darle la última mano a la parte de abajo (menos mal que no se nota!).

5. Voy a comprar telas con mi hermana al centro de L.A.

6. No soy nada buena cociendo (de casualidad remiendo un botón), así que busqué alguien que cosiera los cojines,

7. Compré lija, base y pintura y pinté la silla! (Nota: El niño necesita tener sus materiales para pintar y su actividad al mismo tiempo, de otra manera uno nunca sabe que pueda pasar!–vease la foto–) (Segunda nota: Este último paso llevó varios días!)

8. Producto final, me FASCINA!
