Maya’s birth story

On Tuesday 9 I was at home all day, getting some rest and getting organized. I suddenly felt lots of discharge, more than usual, I even called the doctor and he said it was normal, the baby is coming soon but if it’s not running down your leg or wetting your pants then you didn’t break your water. Well, no, it wasn’t, but an hour after that call it was!!

So fortunately, Derek was coming home from work and we got ready to go to the hospital. And my mom arrived just in time to go pick up Adrian from daycare and stay with him. Doctor told me they should run a test and make sure my water broke.

El martes 9 estuve en la casa todo el día descansando y organizando. De repente sentí como mucho flujo, más de lo normal, llamé al doctor y me dijo que era normal que significa que la bebé viene pronto en estos días, que si no sentía mucha agua que me corría por las piernas o que se me mojaran los pantalones entonces no era que se me había roto la fuente. Bueno, no sentía eso pero después de una hora que hablé con el doctor si se me mojaron los pantalones!!

Afortunadamente Derek ya venía en camino de regreso del trabajo y nos preparamos para ir al hospital. Y mi mamá llegó justo a tiempo para ir a buscar a Adrian a la guardería y cuidarlo. El Doctor me dijo que me tendrían que hacer una prueba a ver si de verdad se me rompió la fuente.

I guess I was on denial, cause I still thought, no this is just a test, we’ll be back home. But of course not, they did a test and yes my water broke and the doctor recommends to induce labor after this because if labor doesn’t start soon, it can get infected and so on. Thing is I wasn’t feeling any kind of contractions, so that’s why I didn’t believe it!

Yo estaba todavía en período de negación porque todavía pensaba que nos regresarían a la casa ya que yo ni sentía ninguna contracción. Pero porsupuesto que no nos regresaron, efectivamente mi fuente se rompió y el Doctor recomienda inducir el parto ya que todo podría infectarse si no comienza el parto naturalmente.

The induction started around 11pm on Tuesday 2/9/10. I started having contraction right away according to the chart but I didn’t feel them yet! I think I started feeling them very lightly around 1am and I was only about 2 cm dilated, they told me there is no measured time for how long it would take, so it was just a waiting game.

I took little naps here and there but I didn’t really sleep that night. Derek slept for a little while and so did my sister who came to be there with me and take pictures and video.

La inducción la empezaron alrededor de las 11pm del Martes 9/2/10. Empezé a tener contracciones ahí mismito de acuerdo con los diagramas pero yo ni sentía nada aún. Yo creo que las empezé a sentir un poquitico como a la 1am y estaba dilatada nada más como 2cm. Me dijeron que la verdad se podía tardar horas o podía ser rápido, no hay ningún período de tiempo específico, así que había que esperar y esperar.

Me dormí un poquito durante la madrugada pero no mucho. Derek se pudo descansar un buen rato y mi hermana también quien ya había llegado para tomar fotos y video del nacimiento.

On Wednesday morning 2/10 I was having more contractions and felt them a little more, the Doctor came and thought that maybe by 4pm I would be having the baby. My sister went to work and told us to let her know when she could come back since nothing was happening.

El Miércoles 10/2 por la mañana ya sentía un poco más las contracciones, el Doctor vino y me dijo que a lo mejor como a las 4pm tendría al bebé. Mi hermana se fué a trabajar ya que no estaba pasando nada y vendría cuando empezara lo más fuerte.

By 11am my contractions where getting stronger and I asked for the epidural; we rested more. Then around 12:30 the nurse came over saying my contractions where 1 minute apart so she was going to check me and she said I was 5cm dilated, still 5 more to go! She was going to ask for more epidural. As soon as she left the room, I felt a BIG CONTRACTION and a lot of pressure to push! I could not stop screaming, OMG!

Ya a las 11am empezé a sentir las contracciones más fuertes y pedí la epidural, después de ahí descansamos un poco más. Alrededor de las 12:30 la enfermera vino a revisarme porque veía que mis contracciones venían con un minuto de separación. Me chequeó y ya había dilatado 5cm, todavía faltaban 5! Se fué a pedirme más epidural. Tan pronto salió de la habitación sentí una CONTRACCION ENORME y mucha presión para pujar. Ya no podía dejar de gritar!!

A lot of nurses came in and started getting the room ready for delivery. They even said that they called the Doctor but if he didn’t get on time they were able to deliver the baby. I really didn’t care at that point who was there, I wanted the baby out no matter what, the contractions where really strong and I needed to push it out!!! So the Doctor did make it without any time to change into his scrubs, just put them quickly on top and go! I pushed 2 times and she was out! At 1:14pm!

It was so quick and all of a sudden that my sis didn’t make it on time to videotape, she got there about 15 minutes after!!

Después de esto muchas enfermeras entraron al cuarto y todo el cuarto se preparó para la llegada de Maya. Incluso me dijero que a lo mejor el Doctor no llegaba a tiempo pero que ellas estaban preparadas para ayudarme con el nacimiento. A mi de verdad no me importaba quien la recibiera, yo ya quería que saliera, las contracciones estaban fuertisísimas y tenía que pujar. El Doctor llegó justo a tiempo, sólo pudo ponerse su ropa especial encima de lo que cargaba y ahí mismito pujé 2 veces y Maya nació! A la 1:14pm.

Todo fué tan rápido al final que mi hermana no pudo llegar a tiempo para filmar, llegó 15 minutos después!

At one point of those contractions I even said OMG why did I do this again??? But, yes, we all know why! This BEAUTIFUL baby girl. It’s all worth it!

En un momento de esas contracciones incluso dije, porqué hice esto otra vez?? Pero, si, todos sabemos porque… Por esta Bebé HERMOSA. Todo vale la pena!

Derek was able to take these videos which are nice to have for the future.

The pictures I uploaded in the last post where from the day after, it was the best day of all, relaxed at the Hospital, taken care of and meals delivered to the room!

Derek pudo tomar estos videos durante todo el proceso y es algo chévere para guardar para el futuro.

Las fotos que puse en el post anterior fueron del día después, fué el mejor día de todos, descansando en el Hospital, tranquilos, nos cuidaron bien y nos mandaban comida al cuarto!
